Japan Explosives Society Academy Award 2024

Dr. Atsumi Miyake

 Dr. Atsumi Miyake graduated from the Department of Safety Engineering at Yokohama National University, and completed the Master's Program in Safety Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, at the same university. He was then employed as a research assistant at the Faculty of Engineering, Yokohama National University, where he also earned his Doctorate in Engineering. He was promoted to professor in 2006 and engaged in education and research at the Faculty of Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences and Institute of Advanced Sciences, all within Yokohama National University, while also contributing to the university's administration. He served as an Executive Director and Vice President of the university, retired in 2024, and was granted the title of Professor Emeritus.
 Dr. Atsumi Miyake conducted research on safety engineering, energy engineering, risk analysis, and related fields. He focused on the ignition and explosion characteristics of reactive chemicals and energetic materials, and on safe and effective utilization technologies for these materials. He has widely disseminated his research findings both domestically and internationally through various publications, including the Journal of the Japan Explosives Society. His achievements have been recognized with numerous academic awards, including the Excellent Paper Award from the Japan Explosives Society. In recent years, he has also conducted research on the safety of hydrogen utilization, playing a crucial role in compiling “Hydrogen Safety Strategies” through technological development and the examination of legal regulations, thereby making significant contributions to their social implementation.
 At the Japan Explosives Society, he has enthusiastically provided research guidance to numerous students and researchers/engineers from the industry, contributing to human resource development. He has also held various positions within the society, including Councilor, Executive Director, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Chairman of the Editorial Committee, and Vice President. From 2016 to 2020, he served as President, leveraging his experience and international network to promote the society's reform and development, particularly contributing to the internationalization and enhancement of the journal's international reputation.
 In addition, in recognition of his long-standing achievements in the field of explosives safety, he was awarded the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry's Award for Explosives Safety in 2024.
 Dr. Atsumi Miyake's accomplishments have significantly contributed to the development of the Japan Explosives Society and the explosives industry and have made a significant contribution to the safety of explosives. These contributions are deemed worthy of the Academic Award of the Japan Explosives Society.
