Dr. Takeshi Tachibana

Dr. Takeshi Tachibana graduated from Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, The University of Tokyo, where he received Ph.D. He then joined Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology, where he guided many students in their theses, dissertations, and doctoral theses in research related to combustion engineering of high-energy materials and space engineering.
He has consistently conducted basic and theoretical research to elucidate the characteristics of ignition and combustion and to control combustion. He proposed a new combustion technology by hybrid addition of electrical discharge and laser to propellants. His academic papers have been published not only in STEM, but also in Journal of Propulsion and Power (e.g., Performance Characteristics of a Water/Dimethyl-Ether Propellant Arcjet, 2020), and in Fuel (e.g., Burning velocities of dimethyl ether–nitrous oxide mixtures, 2018). He also obtained patents related to propulsion systems and combustion methods.
In the Japan Explosives Society, he served as a permanent secretary. He worked hard to hold and manage the Autumn Research Presentation Meeting sponsored by the Western Branch of Japan Explosives Society, where he served as the secretariat. In addition, he promoted many students to make presentations at the regular conferences.
Dr. Takeshi Tachibana's achievements have contributed to the development of Japan Explosives Society, the explosives industry, and the space industry. At the same time, he has greatly contributed to the improvement of technologies for the safe use of high-energy materials. He is deserving of the Japan Explosives Society Award for Academic Achievement.
