Abstract

This paper proposes a new technique of hypervelocity impact testing method using a shaped charge. For the development of a bumper to protect spacecrafts from space debris impact, hypervelocity impact testing has been studied. The speed of conical shaped charge jet tip is over 10 km·sec-1 , but trailing jets and slug are needless for impact testing. To remove the needless matters from the shaped charge, the inhibitor method and defense plate system were tested and its effectiveness and problems were identified.
